What the image is testing
The useful question is not whether a finish can make a fireplace “look like plaster.” It is whether geometry, substrate, heat-zone requirements, edge conditions, clearances, and adjacent floor transitions can support one continuous reading.
For a built project, the finish system and preparation would be selected only after reviewing the fireplace type, manufacturer clearances, substrate assembly, expected temperature, movement, and applicable code requirements.
